I'm thinking the _next_ version should be called 1.8.0
(rather than 1.7.3 as planned) due to new features, new
tiles, and incompatibility with previous versions (albeit 
via capabilities).

So I wonder if we should change to network byte order for
the next version.  (Any volunteers to code it? :-)

(And maybe have the integrated Gtk/Xaw version as 1.8.1, since 
it will have the same features and compatibility as 1.8.0 
(if as above) but with the Gtk interface option.)
