I am curious about a topic and I would appreciate your comments, etc.

How much money would it take to develop a discussion forum for Kansas
university faculty using slashcode? How long would it take?

The faculty at the Kansas public universities (ESU, FHSU, KSU, KU, KUMC,
PSU, WSU) do not collaborate or cooperate very well. One problem is a
lack of knowledge; if I want to work on a problem with applications to
nanotechnology, with whom do I collaborate in Kansas? Another problem
is the absence of a discussion forum; if I think salaries "suck" in Kansas,
am I alone (or even correct) or is this a common concern. (OK, in this
case, I know salaries "suck" and the KBOR has seen studies which reach
this conclusion (but using different terms). My salary is about 10% lower
than the national average (which is, according to the February, 2004 issue
of the AMS Notices, $80,221 for full professors at Group 3 PhD math depts.).
The salaries at KU and KSU are not much better overall.)

Would it be possible to set up subject areas (ala "Ask Slasshdot", "Apache")
for each discipline (e.g. biology, math, speech pathology)? (Would "Rob"
have to move to Kansas?)
