It all started at the last cpu show. When we were trying to turn on the
cdwriter. What ended up happening, was 1) no mounting of the cdrom 2)
not able to mount the windoz 95 directories (no driver found) 3) not
able to mount floppies (same stuff)

This is why most of my email has the windoz signature, each time I
started linux it got worse. Last night I got unable to mount hda10
unknown filesystem...kernal panic no root directory!!! hda10 is my root
directory! checking with fdisk, and hda 10 is type 83 "linux native"
same as it has always been. So, I put the redhat 6.1 cd in and did
upgrade. NOT GOOD :-( I HAVE A BIG HARD DRIVE, and have to use the
western digital EZ loader. Not liked by fdisk! I have solved this by
putting my lilo on a floppy. Well the upgrade felt it was too good to
boot by just a floppy, it over wrote hda1 boot sector (windoz) but it
never finished, you'd get wd ezloader........booting c drive..
LI{consistant beeping starts here and computer locks up} After digging
my norton commander off of 5 1/4 floppy I rewrote my hda and recovered
'c' drive (hda1). I am now up and active on windoz, but I have lost
everything I had on linux I managed to save my /home on hda6, and my
swap on hda5 but, I lost hda8, 9, 10 which were the guts of my linux
install. I did save my address book on /home

Does anybody have a utility which I could read the linux drive, to pull
my data and put it on cdrw, before I try again? YUZ WUD BE ME HERO!!
:-) I really want to back up my home directory first. I can use my
rescue disk, or, while the install program is running, I have bash on
[alt]F2, but it would not do many commands, so I feel it has a limited
vocabulary, while in install mode.

I need help, and so does my cpu! :-)

MIKE
