John, I am stupid about linux but when I setup cable modems i make them the
second nic.  probably makes no difference but I think most of the traffic
will go over the lan?  good luck.  you might document your trial and errors
and then in 3 months when someone else asks the same question, you can be
the expert and zip that info off to us.
