the reason mine was giving me that error was because COM4 (where my modem
is) was configured as IRQ3, but my modem's jumper settings said IRQ5... as
soon as i changed it back, it worked correctly...  i'm THOROUGHLY enjoying
inet in linux again!!! : ^ )
