Gnome!!!  It is very nice and configurable. You also have access to all KDE
applications within Gnome (no need to keep switching Desktop Environments).

Have X up and at the xterm prompt, type:

switchdesk

type:

cat /proc/interrupts               (to check IRQ's)
chmod 0666 /dev/ttyS*         (to access serial ports if needed)
cu -l ttyS0 -s 115200           (substitute ttyS0, ttyS1, ttyS2, ttyS3 one
at a time)
at                                                (if you get an "OK"
response, the modem is on that line)
