I like Matrox. The Millennium and Millennium II should be fairly inexpensive these days. Maybe National has one of those and they work like a champ in Linux.

i've been useing s3's since i started useing linux with never any

when i started setting up my new machine i wanted a 4meg video card.

i got a S3 trio 3D. didn't work.
i went back to national and exchanged it for a S3 Virge/DX. it
doesn't work as a S3, only SVGA.

is there something i need to upgrade?
is there a trick?
do i need to go back to tweeking the H&V sync's by hand?

do any of the new S3's work?

the XFree's site said that the S3 family of chips was the most
supported.

what happened?

i remember hearing about problems with the S3 Virge a long time ago.
i thought that was fixed
