What does that make me? You know, I never even considered that? I would
have looked at that originally in a windows box. I guess I'm just so far
out of my element that it escaped me entirely. I think I'll crack the case
and yank the sound card (which doesn't work either, by the way). I was at
a M$ seminar yesterday so had little time for the Linux box. Just long
enough to tick me off completely.

Oy, thanks for reminding me. A coworker was telling me this morning
how he fooled with his linux box last night; turns out the sound card
program didn't find his sound card on some IRQ, and so fell back to 2,
which clobbered the modem. When he set it manually, both the sound card
and the modem came to life. Do you have a sound card in that box?
I'm not a big sound-card user, so it's easy for me to forget this stuff.
