While we're at it, there is a GREAT thing called ssh.  ssh can work
like telnet or rsh.  The big difference, though, is that ssh encrypts
the data stream before it leaves your computer, and the remote
computer decrypts it upon arrival.  This whole process is completely
transparent.

The benefit of this is that it now becomes impossible for anybody to
sniff anything at all from the wire, because they cannot decrypt it.

If you use Debian, you can get ssh from nonus.debian.org.  Even if you 
don't use Debian, you can get it there too, since they've got sources.
