Well you would have to nfs mount them, but they have to give you
permissions for that, and as I'm sure its a securit hole, I doubt they'd
let you. 

A kinda stop gap, emacs (and xemacs) have a ftp module built in. start it
up and open (ctrl-x ctrl-f)
/user@host:file 
after putting in your password (only once per session) you can use emacs
to edit the file.
it defaults to your home directory, so if your file is in a subdirectory,
list the relative path from your home directory as the file, also if you
list a directory (or leave file blank to mean your home directory) you can
browse, and open files.

unfortunatly, ftp doesn't support comiling so you still have to log in to
do that, but I found it great for website editing (especially if your isp
has disabled telnet)
