No, I'm comparing 3.99.17 and 5.99.2 (and now 5.99.4, same results)
installed side-by-side on the same machine, with the same python.

I tried with maxconnections = 1, 2, and 3. The old version is
significantly faster in each case.

35 folders; about 17k messages total, with the four biggest folders
accounting for 11k of that.
