It may be good to note that badblocks is not fool-proof.  If you have a HD
error that only surfaces occasionally (no pun intended), badblocks may not
find it.

I had a situation, once where I had several HDs in one system... they didn't
get enough power all the time.  Sometimes they would work fine, other times
they would give all sorts of errors.  When I ran badblocks, it *always* gave
me a list of different bad blocks... :-)

Anyway... moral of the story is... don't always trust diagnostic software.

But, if badblocks didn't find any errors, you're *probably* safe to assume
your problem lies elsewhere.
