[Freeciv] Trouble Staring CIV

Thanks for your assistance.  I found the README.gz file in
/usr/share/doc/freeciv and got my server started.  I created a human player
and two AI players, and I managed to connect after I figured out the
username had to match.

  The status window at the bottom shows that I'm connected.

  However, the client just sits there on my GNOME desktop with the big
artwork picture of the world and the title.  All the menu options are greyed
out except for a couple options and log file menu items.   The only thing
that responded to any kind of mouse clicking was the 'End Turn' button,
which simply turned to grey when I clicked on it.

  I've read the help entries and the README file again to no avail.  Is
there an obvious thing I'm missing, or is it malfunctioning?
