Hello,

First, I would like to thank the translators for doing a great job.
The ability to play Freeciv in so many languages is a key feature which
distinguishes this volunteer project from the commercial offerings.

Having done some modest work at the Portuguese translation in the past, I
know how hard it is to keep the immense .po files up to date. I salute you
for your unswerving efforts.

The developers had long been discussing moving the source tree from CVS to
Subversion. The benefits will be less network traffic, hence speedier
updates for you, plus faster operations with branches, so necessary for
release stabilization.

The documentation for Subversion is here:
http://svnbook.red-bean.com/

Also, there is a quick CVS to Subversion user guide here:
http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/trunk/doc/user/cvs-crossover-guide.html

Besides this transition, there is another issue. I have failed to provide
a quick response time for granting user access to the CVS tree. The
administration staff is finding it increasingly difficult to service user
requests for lack of time due to personal matters. After some discussion
with the main administrator (Paul Zastoupil) and some senior developers we
have decided it would be best to transition to an external host which can
provide Subversion access faster and more easily than us.

The Wesnoth project (http://www.wesnoth.org) has recently moved to gna.org
and, after some discussion with people involved in Wesnoth, it was decided
to try using Gna! as a provider. I have heard nothing but compliments about
them from the Wesnoth team. So far their response time and courtesy towards
us have been impressive.

Our gna.org project page is here:
https://gna.org/projects/freeciv/

You can register an account here:
https://gna.org/account/register.php

After you confirm the registration and log in, it is possible to request
access to the Freeciv project here:
https://gna.org/my/groups.php

See the "Request for Inclusion" box. The project name should be "Freeciv".

A developer can approve your request. You can reach me via IRC at:
Channel: #freeciv-dev
Server: irc.freenode.net

Once you have permissions, you can get information on how to access the
tree at this page:
https://gna.org/svn/?group=3Dfreeciv

Thank you for reading,

---
Vasco Alexandre da Silva Costa
