Yes it was ally ... so that explains that.
I was just puzzled that there is an ally army 5 units strong marching toward
my capital ... makes me think how ally are they? .... but ok good to know
:-P
Sorry for the "false bug" ... great job on FreeCiv 2 :-)

Are you sure it was your _enemy_? If you are allied with a player you
can occupy same squares.
