Categories and levels are different.  There is no way to universally
prune the options by category; this doesn't help users to weed out the
useless ones.  Indeed categories and levels can work well together to
separate the options in 2 orthogonal ways.

Gregor's right that the server will still be used.  Also levels could
play a prominent role in the conndlg.  The current conndlg divides the
options by category but there are still way too many of them.

Do you really object to this design?
