OK, I've generated a snapshot of what I've come up with up to this day. You can grab it at:

It's rendered at 128x64, but of course, I could change it to the more normal 64x32 format.

The tileset still needs to be debugged; that means, I haven't tried it on the game yet, so there will probably be contrast and sizing problems and things like that, but as we are talking about svg graphics, those corrections can't take too much effort.
