I tried out the MNG format, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to solve the 
problem. The files tend to be even a bit larger than with PNG. 
Ok, perhaps there is no reasonable way to get this thing smaller. Would it be 
difficult / impossible to handle animation files with a size of about 1 MB 
(for one unit) and an entire size of about 50 MB ? Would this cause memory 
problems appart from download problems ?

Of course i will also give you the Blender "source" files with the animated 3D 
models. I'm also working on a Python script for Blender for creating tilesets 
within Blender.
