That won't work when the "standard" contradicts common usage.
In this case, your "standard" is something only 0.1% of the intended
audience has ever seen before.  You have to revise either your idea
of what a standard is, or your idea of what you try to achieve by
following it.

"3d" is a standard notation (in the sense of "commonly used"): see

This is how I read "3d" and it's only confusing to use it otherwise.
