Can you make a patch for the CHECK_RANGE macro and its use?

Can you make a proposal (list what has to be changed, how it is
controlled, performance impact,...) of the generalization of the map
topology? So that we can have the four types (flat, like now,
donut,...). This is the next big step IMHO.

It is sad to say but if no pieces of your patch will find its way into
freeciv you have wasted your time. The only other solution is the find
people who like your patch and split it into pieces.
