I have prepared another version of this patch.  It does little except
to update the vsnprintf autoconf macro to the latest version, which is
now in the autoconf archive at <http://cryp.to/autoconf-archive>.

I have given this patch a lot of testing in the past week, and I
believe that it is definitely ready for prime-time.

You should say 

  $ aclocal && autoheader && automake && autoconf

and reconfigure after applying this patch.
