I think the only people who are called "Yankees" these days are the
baseball team from New York. :-)

On the other hand, I've heard that "yanqui" is a somewhat derogatory term
used to refer to people of the USA in some Spanish-speaking countries.
Not quite as offensive as "gringo", but still a thinly veiled insult.
