This tries to establish a connection to a page on the Freeciv website.
Did you set the proxy address and port number using $http_proxy
before starting the client, as indicated in the README? See
http://www.freeciv.org/lxr/source/README#L236

Strange - the connection attempt should time out eventually.

Very strange.

I don't know what level of access your proxy is offering - the metaserver
is a regular webserver, but civservers usually run on high ports (default
5555) that may be blocked by a firewall. But you'd have to ask your ISP
administrators or policy maintainers.
