But it's difficult to hide this knowledge if you've got foreign diplomats
running around inside your country.  The USA knew the capital of the USSR
(Moscow), and I'm quite sure that the USSR knew the capital of the USA
(Washington, D.C.) even though these two countries had only limited
contact.  Likewise, children in the USA are taught the capitals of
European countries (although most don't remember them) (it seems Europe
is more important to the USA than the rest of North America...).

Also, this information is presented to the player in both Civ1 and Civ2.
I know there's some debate about whether this should be considered
sufficient justification for inclusion in Freeciv, which is why I've
presented this argument second.
