So will I.  But they add a great deal of realism.

Seconded!  Also, I'd prefer to have

  + a different tech required to remove mines (Electricity or Electronics)
  + an implementation that doesn't require new tiles or units

I'm not sure if I want players to have a ready-made overview of all minefields
they know of without extra effort.

I saw a game yesterday with the autoattack capability.  Haven't tried it
myself yet.  It could partly resolve the problems with minefields.
