Neat. You could add a wonder that de-mines the planet. Also, perhaps
to add realism, you could make it so that no one knows where the mines
are, not even the player who placed them (that is, they don't appear on
any maps). Perhaps with computer technology and GPS technology, a player
would be able to keep track of their own mines. And you could make it so
that if you put a worker on a mined square within a city's usable range
it has some chance of killing the worker and reducing the city size by
one. The automatic worker rearrangement (like when the city grows) could
also cause a possible worker-mine encounter.
