No clicking most likely means the solenoid is not kicking in.  When hot
the coil windings can behave in strange ways.  At one time there were
shops that would rebuild starters, alternators, and the like.  Like
full service stations, they are rare these days.  

At one time Fords had a seperate solenoid on the inside fender so it
could be easily replaced.  Your lights not dimming means that the
problem is an open circuit and not a short.  An open winding in the
solenoid seems the most likely culprit.

The cheaper alternative is to get pull-off starter from a salvage
yards.  Yards vary in service and parts quality and prices are
typically 1/3 to 1/2 of new price.
