Ok still, 31 messages behind, but now were bringing religion into it? I
sure hope the A word doesn't come up next, I can't handle that much
mail.

And btw, I want to state for the record I'm against terrorism.

I think this is a sad opinion to hold, and demonstrates the exact
problem with Richard Reid, and any other extremists like him. In a
later post, jlweaver says "I would do it given the opportunity."

I like you plenty, jlweaver, and do not mean this as a personal attack,
so please don't take it as such.

But to say such a thing is to put yourself on the same level as Richard
Reid. Reid saw an injustice done (whether or not his viewpoint was
accurate), and accordingly decided on an appropriate action (harming
others by way of a bomb), and then chose that he "would do it given the
opporitunity."

Anyone who is willing to harm (especially kill) another person to prove
their point is, in my opinion, is on the same level as Richard Reid,
Timothy McVeigh, the Unibomber, and even Hitler.

Anyone who has that willingness and intention is equally as evil. The
fact that they don't have the power or opporitunity to act on such
willingness saves them only in a practical sense. Morally and ethically
they are equally wrong.

Now before you jump down my throat because of this viewpoint, let me
point out that this is not a viewpoint that I hold on my own, nor is it
one that I thought of on my own.

It is, in fact, a viewpoint stated by Jesus Christ. "You have heard
that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who
murders will be subject to judgement.' But I tell you that anyone who
is angry with his rother will be subject to judgement." Matt. 5:21-22
(NIV)

I understand and respect that some on this list may not consider Jesus
Christ an authority on such matters. I believe there is sufficient
evidence, however, to support Jesus's claims to be the devine Son of
God, and therefore an authority on the matter. This is why I have
chosen to borrow this view from Christ, and is why I am willing to
express an opinion that may seem so strong to some.

I only hope that this expression of my opinion can be received
respectfully, as it was intended.
