NO WORRIES!! by some miracle, the linux GODS have granted me a new kernel
this time. Other then going in and nuking the /usr/src/linux directory and
then doing a tar -zfg (or something like that) on a kernel tar ball, I did
the exact same thing I was doing before and for some reason this time it
took. Popped into NT to be sure all was well with the dual boot and voila,
I am back in the saddle again.

Now I need to learn a few more things about getting my sound up and going as
well as my old tape drive, but all in time. The sound of course will prolly
take first priority.

Thanks for the well wishing,
spiff

fwiw: it was panicking after compiling when trying to reboot using the new
kernel. I also was trying to compile kernel 2.2.5. Been through the howto
when doing it the debian way didn't want to work, but this last time I got
the debian way to work which dramatically simplifies things.
