Yes, fragmentation is a problem for proprietary software, but
fortunately for us, in Free Software, this effect manifests itself as
something much better: choice. For instance, we have KDE and Gnome
out there now, but what this means for us is that we can use all our
applications with either interface (or any of a dozen others). KDE
and Gnome both use CORBA, I believe, so they will be interoperable.
