Well, I've been trying to upgrade to kernel 2.2.2 and it's getting to
be rough going. In installing some of the software rpm's that the
changes file indicates that I need more current versions of I have lost
some functionality in the machine. I am no longer able to mount the
cdrom, it gives the message that the kernel doesn't support iso9660.
It did originally.

I also started getting a message at shutdown and at boot "modprobe
can't locate module net-pf-6". Does anyone have any idea what module
net-pf-6 is? Would it be possible to reinstall that module?

The last thing that I ran into was that make xconfig no longer works.
I tried compiling a new kernel without the software upgrades in place
and make xconfig worked fine. After the changes it now reports that it
can't find a handfull of files in the scripts directory, and they aren't
there. Make dep has the same problem, but is missing about twice as
many files. Consequently, it won't make new kernels.

Any ideas about where I went wrong? Any ideas about whether there is
a fix short of reinstalling linux (RH5.2)? As a last resort I'll reinstall
linux and change one software at a time until I start having probs. At
least I'd know which rpm is causing the problem.

Thanks,

Wayne
