No, I don't think you forgot anything.  Clearly _I_ forgot a lot of my
research about what's really supported and when before I bought this video
card.  Even with XFree86 3.3.3.1 under RedHat (which I had on there last
week), it'd only do 800x600 at 16bpp.  That's no good, considering Windows
does considerably better (1024x768 @ 24bpp).  So... pretty disappointing.

At this point I'm back to swapping hardware.  I have a choice of a S3 ViRGE
GX2 (AGP) or a STB Velocity 3d (PCI).  Anyone got any guess which will be
less hassle to set up?  This system's owner is getting pretty antsy to get
it and I'm tired of being hung up trying to get this video card to work...
