Well, there are several items available for Linux.  MPI and PVM
(Message Passing Interface and Parallel Virtual Machine, respectively)
are two systems for coordination of parallel or distributed tasks on
multiple processors or across multiple machines on a network.
Beowulf, if I remember correctly, sits above these.  There is also a
networked IPC that a friend pointed out to me the other week, although
gut reaction is that this would be somewhat inefficient.
