OS/2 can run Windows software--including Windows 3.1 drivers in most
cases. I'd bet that their statement *techincally* is true--with enough
effort, you could get the Winmodem to run under OS/2 using Win 3.1
drivers.

Yes, USR may be a bit more expensive, but *you get what you pay for*.
When you pay $29.99 w/ a $20 mail-in rebate for a 56k Atlas modem, you get
what you pay for--a $10 piece of plastic with copper contacts.

When you pay $120 for a 56k external USR Sportster, you get a quality,
$120 modem.

I own three USR Sporsters and a USR Courier--I bought them all used, never
paid more than $50 for any of them. The Courier is upgradable to 56k
(haven't flashed it as 56k is not an option in my area, nor does an analog
56k modem help on _incoming_ calls, which is what I do. :-), and the
Sportsters are all 33.6.

I got them mostly from usenet or eBay--take a look there, too, if you're
wanting a quality modem at a reasonable price (and don't like shopping at
CompUSA or other chain stores :-)
