Hello,

I generally reccommend a US Robotics/3COM Sportster modem. Any US Robotics
modem will be good, EXCEPT for the WinModem. NEVER buy a winmodem.

As for ISPs, to the best of my knowledge, SouthWind is the only one with
tech support people that will answer Internet-related Linux questions for
dialup accounts. Linux itself will work with many ISPs, but you may have to
figure out how to set it up yourself.

(Disclaimer: I am a sysadmin at SouthWind, in case that may skew what I'm
telling you about ISPs.)
