SURVIAC will be offering its two introductory BRL-CAD training courses
in February 1999:
COURSE
| DATES
----------------------------------------------------------|-----------
BRL-CAD 101: Construction, Interrogation, & Imaging
| Feb 23-24
BRL-CAD 102: Geometry Conversion
| Feb 25
BRL-CAD 101, Construction, Interrogation, and Imaging, is a two-day
course that provides an introduction to the basic elements of the
BRL-CAD package. On
the first day, students will examine the solid modeling editor, MGED,
and the associated techniques used for constructing geometric models.
The course presents the techniques for combining basic BRL-CAD shapes
(such as spheres, cylinders, and boxes) to define the models.
The
second day of study examines programs to
evaluate the models. These programs validate the geometry and
create
report- and/or demonstration-ready images. A prerequisite of
this
course is a familiarity with
the basic UNIX operating environment and text editors.
BRL-CAD 102, Geometry Conversion, is a one-day course that presents
an
overview of several geometry formats and existing BRL-CAD conversion
programs
designed to handle these formats. The course includes exercises
tailored to the individual students' conversion requirements.
A
prerequisite of this course is a
familiarity with MGED and/or completion of the BRL-CAD 101 Course.
Advanced courses and onsite training are available upon request to
address in-depth BRL-CAD topics and specific student requirements.
For additional information on the training courses, contact Sue Ellen
Wojciechowski at the SURVIAC Aberdeen Satellite Office via the routes

The DoD-sponsored Survivability/Vulnerability Information Analysis
Center (SURVIAC) Aberdeen Satellite Office (ASO), located adjacent
to
the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, provides full service
distribution and support for the BRL-CAD model for a $500 fee.
This
includes the initial distribution of the model, installation support,
maintenance release updates, technical support, and future activities
information. Additionally, we sponsor an annual BRL-CAD User's
Group
Meeting. Training courses are also offered periodically each
year.
SURVIAC provides the DoD community with a one-stop resource for all
aspects of nonnuclear survivability, lethality, and mission
effectiveness, which includes dissemination of information and models
to
support this community.
