I've done some tinkering with Afterstep but have concluded about the same
thing you have.  I love the look, but it keeps telling me I can't do what I
think I'm doing.  The real drag is when I think I've configured something
and find I've tossed a curve at the system and now have 90 boot-time
problems.  I know I don't know what I'm doing, but I hate when the computer
knows that too.  :)

I think the second one is called wmakerconf.
I've been playing with AfterStep lately and I like the look, but it set up
menu items for a ton of stuff that's not on my (Slackware 3.5) system, so
half the menu items don't work.  It doesn't seem to bother telling you
about
that either.  Seems like it could have a nice config tool which would scan
for the presence of the things out there before it offers it on the screen.
Maybe it does, but I haven't found it yet.  Anyone else using AfterStep?
AfterStep and WindowMaker see very similar.  I thought WindowMaker was
supposed to stick closer to the original NextStep interface while AfterStep
has kind of gone it's own direction after starting there.  I haven't used
NextStep, am I really off base here?
