You need to get the latest drivers:

http://www.canb.auug.org.au/~sfr/

Also note that you must comment out SMP=1 in the top-level makefile if 
you want to use APM.  I would also say that unless your machine is a
laptop, I'd rather reccommend that you disable APM in your BIOS and
just leave it out of the kernel.  It's less hassle that way.
