ok i succeded in recompiling my kernel (2.0.34) from scratch (removing all
.config files from /usr/src/linux ) I go to reboot, and I get something
like the following:
...
NCR53?406: no ports open
...
partition check
VFS Cannot open host device
08:05 Kernel Panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on 08:05
and there it hangs.
I am not sure about the first line as it scrolls past before I could write
it down, and as no filesystems get mounted I have no logs of the failures.
I did include my SCSI card driver (I have only a SCSI hd) and SCSI
support, and the ext2 filesystem .
My card is an NCR875J so I don't understand the NCR..460 error.
I tried both NCR 8xx drivers, and get the same results.
I am able to boot from a kernel on a floppy.
So what did i do wrong? (i did make dep;make clean; make zlilo; make
modules; make modules_install neither scsi or ext2 are compiled as
modules I dones seem to find my sound card but I don't get far enough to
test it)
