First, I want to thank all contributors for the suggestions. As you
recommended, "linux 3 " at the boot prompt got me to a text login and a
shell prompt. I typed in "mouseconfig" and selected what I thought was
the nearest choice, Logitech Wheel Mouse PS2 ( mine is an optical mouse,
but I can't see why it would need a different driver ) but I still was
frozen stiff as a board when KDE booted- no mouse or keyboard- so I
rebooted and tried to get into Kudzu to see if I could find anything.
When I typed "kudzu" at the command line, my keyboard immediately ceased
to work again while in text mode. Is this psycho, or will I learn
something here? I also looked for any mention of my mouse at the RH
hardware compatibility list, and there was nothing about my mouse pro or
con. Is this good?
