I'm not your guy, but I did look into it awhile back.
There's a website that Gerard Beekmans offers, www.linuxfromscratch.com. The
website has a number of LFS Hints (kind of like a HOWTO), mailing lists
(including archives), and a pointer to an IRC channel specifically for help
with doing Linux from scratch. This seems like the most appropriate place for
seeking help, since the book recommends specific methods.
