another way to see it (besides less or more)

hold down SHIFT and hit PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN to scroll through the console.
It works at any point (even durring kernal boot), but it will go down if 
there is any output after you hit it, and it is limited in length. (I don't 
remember any time it was too small, aside from ls -R / )
