I had the same problem with w95. I found I was using the wrong vallmuz I ended
up getting the copy straight out of the /boot directory and used
c:\linux\loadlin c:\linux\vmlinuz5 root=/dev/hda8 ro
my dos directroy which holds this is c:\linux
vmlinuz5 is the fifth try to get it to boot. I was stuck using the flopppy
root= tells the kernel where to look : drive /dev/hda8
ro tells the kernel to mount /dev/hda8 as a read only at first. Later on it
will adjust and mount it rw, but do not put rw here, let the kernel do it.
