[linux-help] I can't get my x-server working!

I installed linux on an hp netserver, and I have the monitor, keyboard and
mouse plugged into a sharing switch.  Can someone tell me how to get my
x-server running with the monitor plugged into a sharing switch?  I know
there is a way to do it, but I havn't found it yet.
