I've done this a couple of times but it's been a while;
It seems to me like I did the first install on a reasonable
sized partition and left the rest of the drive unused. After
I got that installation running, I think I started again with 
a different distro and didn't provide  a mount point for the 
original partition. (The one time I <did> give it a mnt.pt,
the old partition was no longer bootable.
        Again, it's been a while; I just know I did it somehow.
