The program puts the COM port into an endless loop under certain conditions
and requires a Task Manager intervention to halt it.
Details:
Create a variable named "mu" (the greek character, right-shift n on the
HP-48GX) in a directory named TEMP.
Start up the program with the calculator in Server mode.
Select Mode 1 or Mode 0, checksum method 3.
Navigate to the TEMP directory (lower-left pane of HPComm window). Click on
TEMP. Observe the lower-right pane shows the variable. (Side note: mu seems
to be one of the characters which is NOT translated in Mode 2; this may be
relevant.)
Drag mu from the lower-right pane to the upper-right pane.
The HP displays "Illegal Syntax" and some characters (e.g. ".tmp0 [ -> "),
then "Illegal cmd" several times, and may loop on this. Meanwhile the PC
file transfer dialog is still up on the screen. Hit "cancel" and the PC
becomes very slow. If you observe with Task Manager or Performance Monitor,
you note that HPComm is using approximately 100% of the CPU time. However,
you can still select File...Exit (though the response is slow), and the HP
will be taken out of server mode! However, the 100% CPU usage continues
until you kill the HPCOMM.EXE process with the Task Manager.
