[Freeciv] New User: Freeciv server won't start

I am having trouble getting freeciv to run on my RH 5.1 Linux, GTK+ installed, 
etc. system.

I am by no means a Linux expert but I think I have done the following things 
correctly:

1.  Downloaded the compressed file
2.  Un compressed, compiled, and installed (i think the executables are in 
usr/local/bin)
3.  Read all the appropriate documentation/FAQ's, etc

The crux of my problem is that when I try to execute the freeciv server or 
client nothing happens.

Any help, hints, or references would be greatly appreciated.
