While we're on beginner's questions, let me throw in mine.

How the heck do you start up a game?!

I've figured it out new. You have to start a server, tell it to set up AI's,
start up a client, and then tell the server to start. But I never did actually
find this spelled out anywhere; I just dug through all the "set" options until
I found the one I needed.

Hmm, perhaps there should even be a "single-player" mode for the client, which
automatically starts up the server in an xterm and gives it a bunch of default
options?

Anyway, great game. I spent many hours playing the original Civilization, and
now I can spend many hours playing this one.
