Thanks for the heads-up, Daniel! It would be excellent to get an extra
warning a week or two before the next releases (besides this very
motivating "you have one or two days, now is a good time to get going if
you weren't already", which is a good reminder :)), for us (or just me)
who don't hear about anything unless it's on the translator list... In
any case, I'll see what I can do tonight!

I notice that Freeciv has moved to use svn at some point, and judging by
the instructions it might be that my old username+password account for
cvs access might not work (I can't quite test it before I get off work
in some 7-8 hours). Not that I ever got too well along with the cvs
either, I forget the quirks in a shorter time than the one between my
working sprees on Freeciv.

In any case, I'll be taking a light approach to minimize last-minute
hassle and optimize my time usage since I'm a bottleneck of sorts
anyway.
Plan A:
* I get home from work about 7-8 hours from now.
* I grab ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/latest/fi.po.bz2 (which is
  probably for trunk)
* I grab ftp://www.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/latest/freeciv.pot.bz2 and
merge the two (this is probably also trunk), and put a download of
  ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/latest/freeciv-svn-Jul-26.tar.bz2
on the background so I have a reference for all those quirky
msgids I can't figure out from the po file alone
* I work on it until energy and caffeine run out today,
* I run 'msgfmt -v -c --stat fi.po' and if it checks out fine, bz2 it.
* I upload my fi.po.bz2 to some webspace, mail freeciv-i18n with the url
begging for someone to commit it to 2.1 (since it is hopefully going
to be an improvement anyway) and trunk for me
* Someone who doesn't get the shakes from dealing with svn commits the
  thing for me
* Freeciv 2.1 ships with a slightly improved Finnish translation and
latest/fi.po.bz2 will be ready for a similar lightweight update spree
  for the next release.

If you spot a bug in the process, let me know. If that bug is the
working with trunk, see below:

Finnish statistics for 2.1 is 62,57% translated while trunk is 60,41%.
This is caused by -17 translated messages, +121 fuzzy and +25
untranslated going from 2.1 to trunk. I doubt losing 17 real messages
makes much of a difference compared to the ca. 2000 I can try to get
better. But if someone who knows more of these things believes it would
be smarter to work with a fi.po and freeciv.pot from 2.1, I'm game if I
can point and click the files from somewhere. On the other hand, I know
I can translate more than that if I stay away from svn and the energy +
time drain caused by re-learning these kinds of things for a day. I
reeeally like just getting to work. :)

--Sini, part-time.

PS. I think I went through part of this the last time something happened
on -i18n. Sorry if I forgot the name of whoever might have taken care of
submitting for me then; my mind is simply too thinly spread to tell
Freeciv conversations apart from other similar infrequent discussions.
