Please notice: For legal reasons we ask for permission even if your
software is freeware in the sense of GPU or GPL. Furthermore we
ask for each new issue of PC-WELT in which we want to publish your
software. To avoid this of course you
are welcome to give us general permission for the future.
Hello Michael Braun,
Thank you for asking. This is our general permission (which is also to be
found here: http://www.freeciv.org/index.php/License):
Freeciv is copyleft licensed under the GNU General Public License. This
means you can give it to whoever you want without paying us anything or
asking us for permission. If you make changes to it, read what the license
says about sharing your changes before distributing.
For distributors who wish to include Freeciv on CD or DVD: We approve
(morally) of distribution of Freeciv on CD/DVD along with computer
magazines. You do not need to contact us to seek this approval, you can
distribute Freeciv for free or for a fee under the GNU GPL just like
everyone else.
Be aware that the GPL requires you to distribute source code along with
the program. We recommend putting the .tar.gz compressed source code of
the same version of Freeciv that you wish to distribute in the same
directory on the CD/DVD as the binary compiled version. You do not need to
provide means for the user to install the source code, nor provide any
user support for it. Unfortunately, it is not sufficient to provide an URL
link to the source code, or offer it on FTP (see this link for more info).
The GPL license is the only license or permission that Freeciv can be
distributed under. We will not (and cannot) give any other permissions for
distribution, nor will we offer any kind of warranty or indemnity.
